Tryouts are typically held at the beginning of May. On Friday night participants register and learn material for the weekend. First and second round cuts take place on Saturday followed by an interview with the judges’ panel. On Sunday final cuts are made and the new team is announced. More details will be posted as the tryouts draw nearer. Below is a list of tumbling and stunting requirements one should have in order to tryout.
TRYOUT TUMBLING & STUNTING REQUIREMENTS:
The cheerleading program consists of two teams; Garnet (co-ed) and Gold (all-girl). Both teams are considered Varsity teams and attend men’s and women’s basketball games, home and away football games, women’s volleyball, and post season travel for bowls and tournaments. Both teams contribute to numerous hours of community service and public appearances around Florida State University’s campus, as well as around the state. The FSU cheerleaders are not on scholarship, but do NOT have any out of pocket costs. The university provides all uniforms, shoes, travel bags, nike warm-ups, nike polo’s, nike practice shirts, poms, megs, per diem when traveling, hotel accommodations and all other travel expenses.

The All-Girl team cheers for all home games, half of the away games, half of the volleyball games, all of the women’s home basketball games and post season NCAA women’s basketball tournaments. If you are trying out for all-girl you can tryout as either a top, base or back spot. The members are selected by position; therefore there are 5 spots for tops, 5 spots for back spots and 10 spots for bases. You will be required to show a j-up extension, liberty, stretch with a double down cradle and an optional stunt. These stunts need to be performed with the individuals that are trying out for the team. For tumbling the following are required; standing tuck, toe touch back tuck, back handspring back tuck, at least a round-off back handspring back tuck. These are BASIC requirements! The all-girl cheerleaders practice twice a week for 2-3 hours and are required to attend a mandatory work-out 2-3 times a week. The FSU cheerleaders also attend open gym at Gym Force cheerleading. There are no summer commitments except for camp and work week, which are usually in mid July.
